about

Hockey Rawk#40
7" vinyl, 250 copies

Here we have a 7” of weird little experimental pop vignettes from Rebecca Digby, aka Mole Says Hi, who constructs weird disjointed lo-fi loops with childish sing-song vocals, there’s improvised percussion and creaking doors and a general feel of bedroom experimentalism. I guess the obvious comparisons for me are the haunty experimental pop loops of Ela Orleans and the lo-fi minimal dirt-pop of U.S. Girls, but it’s not as muddy as Meg nor as ethereal as Ela. The weird instrumentation and minimal psych-folky physicality reminds me a bit of Heidi Harris too.

Closer ‘!!&#?!!’ is a warm, smooth, nostalgic little singalong with lush backing vocals, with weird strained brass squeaks and demented vocal loops at the end just so we don’t start thinking she’s lost her edge. Excellent 7” for fans of lo-fi weirdpop.
